Guardians of day and night

For 's mini drawing contest.

According to old Norse mythology Nótt and Dagur (Night and Day) ride around the earth.
Nótt rides ahead on Hrímfaxi who dews the ground with the droplets falling from his mouth. Dagur comes after on Skinfaxi who lights the sky and earth with his glowing mane.

The guardians however do not have riders. They bring night and they bring day. Sometimes one of them falls a little behind and our days or nights get shorter or longer.
When running around earth's terrestrial poles the guardians have trouble keeping an even cycle and therefore are northern summers bright but southern dark.

I'm trying not to make my black spirit evil looking like some tend to do so I decided to make Hrímfaxi the playful one while Skinfaxi is more serious.
It also makes a lot of sense because people often say that the night is young.
I hope you can see the difference between their gaits. Hrímfaxi is galloping, another attempt of showing playfulness.
Skinfaxi is tölting, which is a unique Icelandic gait.



So, if anyone's confused, the black spirit is Hrímfaxi who brings the night, and the white one is Skinfaxi who brings the day (:
